1 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE TENNESSEE YMCA YOUTH IN GOVERNMENT |

3 | Section 1: Terms in this act will be defined as follows: |
4 | Vehicular homicide: The reckless unintentional killing of another by the operation of an |
5 | automobile, airplane, motorboat or other motor vehicle, penalized by a Class B or C felony. |
6 | Class C Felony: A felony such as aggravated assault, kidnapping, and robbery that carries possible |
7 | sentences of 3 to 15 years in prison with fines up to $10,000. |
8 | Class D Felony: A felony such as extortion, reckless homicide, and possession of marijuana that |
9 | carries possible sentences of 2 to 12 years in prison with fines up to $5,000. |

11 | Section 2: This act will reduce the sentence for non-impaired vehicular homicide by lowering the |
12 | classification from a Class C Felony to a Class D Felony with a maximum of 8 years in prison. |

14 | Section 3: This act will have no effect on the current sentence for impaired vehicular homicide, |
15 | which is classified as a Class B Felony. |

17 | Section 4: This act will have no effect on the current sentence should a death incur from drag or |
18 | street racing. |

20 | Section 5: All laws or parts of laws in conflict with this are hereby repealed. |

22 | Section 7: This act shall take effect June 1st, 2024. |
