1 | BE ENACTED BY THE STATE OF TENNESSEE YMCA YOUTH IN GOVERNMENT |

3 | Section 1: Terms in this act shall be defined as follows: |
4 | Genetically modified organisms: Organisms that have an altered genome from using advanced |
5 | technology to alter their characteristics by adding and taking away more wanted or less wanted |
6 | traits. |
7 | Genome: The set of DNA in an organism |

9 | Section 2: All food products sold by retailers must be labeled either partially or completely as a |
10 | genetically modified product or by-product. |
11 | Ingredients within the product, regardless of if the entire product is genetically modified, must |
12 | have a manufactured label on the packaging stating it is a genetically modified organism. |
13 | Within the ingredients list, individual ingredients must be labeled if they are genetically modified. |
14 | Companies who sell their product online must show the GMO labeling on the package. If packaging |
15 | of product is not included in the photo, it must be stated in description of product. |

17 | Section 3: If enacted this change won’t cost anything from the state. |

19 | Section 4: All laws or parts of laws in conflict with this are hereby repealed. |

21 | Section 5: This action shall take effect June 1st, 2024, the public welfare requiring it. |
