1 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE TENNESSEE YMCA YOUTH IN GOVERNMENT |

3 | Section I: Terms in this act will be defined as follows: |
4 | Audio-aided crosswalk: a device that audibly commands the pedestrian when it is okay, and not |
5 | okay to cross the street. Usually the most beneficial to young children and those who are visually |
6 | impaired. |
7 | All pre-existing digital crosswalks in Nashville, Tennessee will be replaced with a system containing |
8 | an audio device. If successful, this will lead to the implementation of these devices state-wide. |
9 | The replacement of the crosswalk devices will be carried out by the Tennessee Department of |
10 | Transportation (TDOT), and installation shall be performed by state employees who have prior |
11 | experience installing digital crosswalks. |

13 | Section II: All pre-existing crosswalks in Nashville, Tennessee will be required to install audio- |
14 | aiding crosswalks in pre-existing crosswalks, considering that Tennessee city has the highest |
15 | population of blind or visually disabled citizens. |

17 | Section III: In order to reduce costs, the audio-aided crosswalks will be installed in groups of no |
18 | less than 4, with an optimal installation time of about 3.5 hours, or less than half of a workday. |

20 | Section IV: This addition to the Tennessee urban communities will cost approximately $15000000, |
21 | and funded through the Tennessee Department of Transportation budget. |

23 | Section V: All laws or parts of laws in conflict with this are hereby repealed. |

25 | Section VI: This act shall take effect June 1, 2024, the public welfare requiring it. And further |
26 | actions may be taken depending on the success of this law. |
