1 BE IT ENACTED BY THE TENNESSEE YMCA YOUTH IN GOVERNMENT

3 Section 1: Terms in this act will be defined as follows:
4 Testing Mandates – includes types of testing required, if any, for older driver license renewal
5 DMV - Department of Motor Vehicles
6 Suspension Authority by State Motor Vehicle Department for Failure to Submit to Examination –
7 indicates if a State’s DMV has the authority to suspend or revoke an older driver’s license for
8 failure or refusal to submit to a vision test and signed statement

10 Section 2: This act will require any individual residing in the state of Tennessee who reaches the
11 age of 65 years to take a mandated vision test.

13 Section 3: For this test, the driver will be required to produce a vision statement signed by a
14 licensed optometrist or ophthalmologist from within the last 3 months.

16 Section 4: Drivers will have the option to submit their vision statement either online or in person
17 at the DMV.

19 Section 5: The DMV has Suspension Authority for Failure to Submit to Examination.

21 Section 6: This act will not require funding from the state budget, since drivers are directed to see
22 a licensed optometrist or ophthalmologist.

24 Section 7: All laws or parts of laws in conflict with this act are hereby repealed.

26 Section 8: This act shall take effect January 1, 2025.
