1 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE TENNESSEE YMCA YOUTH IN GOVERNMENT |

3 | Section 1: Terms in this act are defined as the follows: |
4 | Sexual Transmitted Infections (STIs): An infection through sexual contact, caused by bacteria, |
5 | viruses, or parasites. |
6 | Center for Disease Control and prevention (CDC): the leading national public health institute of |
7 | the United States. |

9 | Section 2: The TN Department of Health (TDOH) shall develop and implement a statewide |
10 | campaign to raise awareness about STI prevention resources. This campaign shall include, but not |
11 | limited to: Distribution of informational materials in public health facilities, collaborating with local |
12 | media features on STI prevention, and partnership with schools to disseminate information to |
13 | students. |

15 | Section 3: The Tennessee Department of Education (TDOE) shall cooperate with the TDOH to |
16 | integrate STI prevention and resources awareness by giving informational resources on prevention |
17 | to middle schools and high schools to supplement the current curriculum. |

19 | Section 4: Funds should be allocated for an advertising campaign to promote STI prevention |
20 | resources, which shall include: advertisement, school-based flyers, and media and any other |
21 | digital platforms. The Department shall submit an annual report to the General Assembly on the |
22 | progress of the awareness campaign, including teen statistics and recommendations for further |
23 | action. |

25 | Section 5: All laws or parts of laws in conflict with this are hereby repealed. |

27 | Section 6: The sum of $200,000 will be allocated from the TDOH for the implementation of this |
28 | act. |

30 | Section 7: This act shall take affect July 1, 2024, the public welfare requiring it. |
